The short version
Theorist collects nothing. Your notebooks are files you own, your progress record never leaves your device, and there are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no servers of ours involved in using the app. The mathematics is computed by a deterministic engine on your device — not by a cloud service.
Your notebooks
Notebooks are ordinary documents (.imath files) saved where you choose — on your device, in iCloud Drive, or anywhere your file provider puts them. We never see them. If you store documents in iCloud Drive, that storage is governed by Apple’s privacy policy and your iCloud settings, not by us.
Your progress
Quiz results, practice history, and study advice are stored in a local file on your device so the app can tell you what to work on. This record is never uploaded, never shared, and you can delete it at any time. Scores are not tied to any identity because the app has no notion of one.
Apple Intelligence features
Some optional features — asking a question in plain English, reading an equation from an image — use Apple’s on-device foundation models on hardware that supports them. These run on your device. The AI is never permitted to perform the mathematics: it proposes, and the exact engine on your device checks. No prompt, image, or notebook content is sent to PointBlue Technology.
The TestFlight beta
During the beta, Apple’s TestFlight service collects crash logs, usage statistics, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send, and shares them with us so we can fix bugs. That collection is described by Apple’s TestFlight privacy terms. Crash logs and feedback we receive are used only to improve the app and are not shared with anyone else.
Issue reports
If you report an issue through our website, we receive what you type into the form (and an email address if you include one, so we can reply). Reports are used solely to investigate and fix the problem you describe.
Children
Theorist is made for learners, including children, which is exactly why it collects nothing: no accounts, no tracking, no advertising, no data leaving the device. There is nothing for a parent to opt out of, because there is nothing collected to begin with.
Changes to this policy
If a future feature changes any of the above — for example, an opt-in cloud reasoning feature — this policy will be updated first, the change will be clearly described, and anything that sends data anywhere will be off until you turn it on.
